The reasons are active trading in the crypto market and an impressive number of investments attracted at their launch. In addition, many traders cannot borrow large amounts of these digital assets to open short positions. Analysts at Forbes emphasize that under the current conditions, zombie coins are hard to dump.
“The term ‘zombie blockchains’ refers to blockchain projects that, like the undead, exist but do not exhibit signs of life in terms of utility or substantial user bases,” the article reads.
The list of zombie cryptocurrencies includes XRP, which ranks eighth in the ranking of digital assets with the largest capitalization. Forbes put XRP on this list because the XRPL blockchain finds it difficult to compete with the SWIFT payment system. Against this background, the network developed by Ripple began to generate minimal revenue and failed to live up to expectations.
In addition, zombie cryptocurrencies included some powerful assets, the so-called “Ethereum killers,” such as Tezos (XTZ), Algorand (ALGO), and Cardano (ADA). Despite their technological advantages, these blockchain networks failed to surpass Ethereum in terms of popularity. As a result, they were left with nothing and did not attract major representatives of the crypto community.
