Bitcoin Quickly Found Itself in the Risk Basket

Already today, Bitcoin fell below $80,000. The decline reached 1.5%, touching a low near $79,300, before some of the losses were recovered. Ether, XRP and Solana also declined. Market pressure is linked to outflows from ETFs. On Thursday and Friday, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $772.4 million of outflows, while earlier in the week net inflows exceeded $1 billion. Recall that in three sessions, those funds erased October's losses, and now much of that effect is gone.

The reason isn't Bitcoin itself. The sell-off in markets has continued since last week because investors increasingly doubt the huge spending on artificial intelligence and are awaiting tech giants' earnings this week. The chain is simple. Doubts about AI weaken appetite for risky assets, Bitcoin trades with them, and therefore even large ETF inflows fail to hold the price.

Right now the market's attention is on the Federal Reserve meeting and then on the U.S. midterm elections. For many systematic funds and algorithmic traders, Bitcoin remains in the risk bucket, so it will be even more vulnerable if sentiment deteriorates. AI chatter online adds to the nervousness. In addition, advances in AI increase potential security risks for the crypto industry, and some investors are taking a cautious stance. Notably, Vitalik Buterin has previously raised a similar theme, warning about AI-assisted wallet-hacking risks.

I believe Bitcoin will remain under pressure until the Fed decision on October 28 and the tech-sector earnings. I allow for a test of $78,000–$79,400. A sustained return above $80,900 is possible only if the earnings reports ease AI concerns; otherwise, every bounce toward $80,000 will be sold.

On Bitcoin

The price is near 80,000 in a range between support at 79,900 and resistance at 80,300, with outer reference points at 79,400 below and 80,900 above. The plan centers on two mirrored directions, each with a breakout and a bounce scenario.

I consider buying in two cases. If price breaks 80,300 to the upside and holds above it, I buy with a target of 80,900, provided price stays above the 50-day moving average and the Awesome Oscillator is above zero; at the target, I take profit and consider a short on the pullback. If a break of 79,900 to the downside is not confirmed and the price returns above, I buy the bounce with an initial target of 80,300 and then 80,900.

I structure selling symmetrically. If the price breaks 79,900 to the downside and holds below it, I open a short position with a target of 79,400, provided the moving average is above the price, and the Awesome Oscillator is below zero. If a break of 80,300 to the upside isn't confirmed and price returns below, I sell the bounce with an initial target of 79,900, then 79,400.

On Ether

The logic fully mirrors Bitcoin on its own price scale. The range lies between support at 2,304 and resistance at 2,328, with outer reference points at 2,276 below and 2,353 above.

I buy a break of 2,328 to the upside with a hold above it and a target of 2,353, provided the price is above the 50-day moving average and the Awesome Oscillator is above zero. If a break of 2,304 to the downside isn't confirmed and price returns above, I buy the bounce with an initial target of 2,328, then 2,353.

I sell a break of 2,304 to the downside with a hold below it and a target of 2,276, provided the moving average is above the price and the Awesome Oscillator is below zero. If a break of 2,328 to the upside is not confirmed and the price returns below, I sell the bounce with an initial target of 2,304 and then 2,276.

I use both indicators as filters to weed out false moves, not as independent reasons to enter early, and I make decisions only after price confirms the specified levels.
