Trump orders federal agencies to replace AI term with “super intelligence”

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to stop using the term “artificial intelligence” and instead adopt “super intelligence” (abbreviated SI) in official communications. The White House said the measure is mandatory across the executive branch. Departments and agencies must use the new terminology in correspondence, public statements, reports, and internal documents.

According to administration officials, the change is intended to draw attention to the pace of innovation and the extensive opportunities the technology presents for Americans. Officials hope the rebranding will focus government efforts on supporting the industry and preserving US technological leadership. Advisers have also been tasked with drafting an official government definition of the new term.

Trump first floated the idea in September at the UN General Assembly, saying the word “artificial” wrongly suggests something fake or inauthentic and that today’s systems operate at a qualitatively different level of capability. The White House said it expects the new designation to gain traction both domestically and internationally.
