Indonesia's trade balance swung to surplus in July as imports logged a sharp decline from last year, figures from Statistics Indonesia showed on Monday.

Exports declined 9.90 percent year-on-year in July. Economists had expected a decline of 16.65 percent.

Imports fell 32.55 percent annually in July. Economists had forecast a decrease of 22.48 percent.

On a monthly basis, exports grew 14.33 percent, while imports decreased 2.73 percent in July.

The trade balance registered a surplus of $3.26 billion in July versus a deficit of $280.1 million in the last year. Economists had expected a surplus of $0.68 billion. In June, the trade surplus was about $1.25 billion.
